When I first started the Onward Israel internship program, I was very excited to visit Israel, meet new people, and have fun with my friends. As a Jew and a Zionist, I’m grateful that this country exists and I will always try to benefit Israel through my words and actions.
After reading Herzl’s biography, The Jewish State, I was amazed how this place took the words of Herzl like a prophecy, “The Jews had, as a matter of fact, long been all along the most ingenious entrepreneurs. It was only our own future that we had never built upon a business basis.” This quote represents the work I have achieved at StarTau. Their goal is to build a larger network of resources for Israeli entrepreneurs and empower them to grow their businesses.
By observing the business environment, I see a place where people have the intentions to invent something new, help the world heal, and make a positive impact in our diverse world. By observing Israel’s development, I see a place where the future is built with strong business and unpredictable speed along with a solid foundation of security and knowledge. I see a place where the Jewish dream is constructed day by day. What they are building is a safe place where people of any religion or culture can live, work, and have a family.
StarTau unifies the Israeli society and the international community. They are responsible for organizing events where innovation and creativity fosters new products, generates a vast network of contacts, investors, academia, and launches programs with mentors, classes and meetings to develop the ideas of entrepreneurs. This organization is incorporating the tikkun olam and putting the words “social entrepreneurship” into action.
Ultimately, what have I learned? Depends who is asking.
If the one who is questioning were an entrepreneur, I would respond that I have learned the structure of the startup framework.
However, if the one who is questioning were an average person without a background in entrepreneurship, the answer would be to admire a great country that was once an idea, and now reinvents itself everyday.
